Hey there you fabulous readers!

I realize that I am a bit delayed with the whole “Happy New Year!!!” and “Happy New Decade” thing.  I thought that at midnight on January 1st I would feel a profound shift in my ability to keep up with my blog and all the other things that I want to plunge into this year.

Great languaging!!!

“Plunge into this year.”

It has a certain ring to it.  Lots of energy.  It makes me want to go and dive off a cliff (uh…ok…not a cliff per se…maybe a rock ledge that is close to the water) and swim off into the sunset.

Okay.  I think “Plunge” might be too strong of a word.  Maybe “jump into this year.”  Nope.  That ain’t it either.  I am more of a get your feet wet for a bit…then your legs…then dunk under the water (you know…the whole getting the water past your tummy phase)….and then swim off into the sunset.

Let me try this again.

I thought that on midnight January 1st I would feel a profound shift in my ability to keep up with my blog and all the other things that I want to dunk into this year. Hmmmmm…’dunk’ is not so poetic…is it?

Isn’t that how we roll at the cusp of a new year…and even more…a new decade?  We think we are going to change into plungers when the clock strikes midnight.  But, come the morning, after all the champagne has worn off…we realize that we are still dunkers.

What that means to me personally is that when I forget my natural tendency towards ‘being a dunker’ and think that I should try and be a diver…this totally mess with my inspiration!  I forget that really what inspires me is the swim…the playing in the water…the whole playing with dolphins kind of gig.  And then when I am all tired out…I love the feeling of laying in the sun and listening to the sounds of the surf.

I guess what I am metaphorically playing with here is whether you are a plunger, a jumper or a dunker…take what comes naturally to you and use that to follow your inspiration.  This does not mean that everything will be easy parchessi.  It won’t.  Even when you are out swimming with the dolphins…sometimes there are pockets of seaweed that freak you out…or currents that try to suck you farther from the shore…and you  find yourself swimming like hell to get back to shore.

Following your inspiration…following your natural rhythm does not always mean that everything is gonna go smoothly. There will always be times that are tough.  Times when you wonder what the hell you are doing.  When you are out swimming with the dolphins and wondering if it was such a good idea to come out and play with these little friends…alone…in the middle of the ocean.  Cool experience for sure…but (gulp) also kind of scary!

So no matter what you have as your focus for this year…for this bright new decade…whether you are a plunger, a jumper or a dunker…if you stay true to your natural rhythm…it is gonna make the journey much less scary and it will be more sustainable~

How is that for a super duper metaphorical post to start the new year?  :)

Are you ready?

Let’s go for a swim~ :)

  1. What an absolutely perfect metaphorical topic for today…which I needed to read! I’m trying my best to dive in, into the back log left from the holidays and woah– our grandaughter who isn’t supposed to arrive until the end of the month looks to be making an early arrival, like anyday…which means what I thought I had a month to do, I don’t.

I’m judging myself extra harshly today as I try to dive in to it all and just can’t. (Casseroles for my son and daughter-inlaws freezer, baby blanket crocheted…let alone tackling laundry, dusting and getting back online and the slew of “to do”‘s I put off through the holidays.) One casserole made today is going to have to do–wading into my knees, good enough.

Thanks for the reminder Lynne that if one is a dunker, she needs to remain true to her dunking nature…even if my grandaughter gets her blanket on her first birthday and my hubby and I wear dirty socks until I can swim into the laundry room.

Love to ya and miss ya, Kerry

  2. Hey Kerry~
Wow! You have your cute hands full. I didn’t know that your grandaughter is coming so soon~
You and I have to find some time to chat soon!!! So much is going on over in your neck of the woods :)

You are so right…your grandaughter will love her beautiful blanket on her first birthday…and as for the socks….that’s why they have an inside and an outside 😉

    Love you~

  3. Greetings for the new year. I tend to plunge and make a quick exit! Or today I plunge, tomorrow I jump and the next I dunk….my natural rhythyms are dependably erratic! Every day is different and hopefully good for all!

  4. Hey Tara~ Happy New Year to you too :)
I love that you can do all three. I am a dunker who wishes she were a plunger 😉
