Ready for a rant? I know…I know…I shouldn’t be using my blog for a place to rant…but, it’s my blog…and I can rant if I want to!!!!

So, here it goes…What is the OBSESSION this country and it’s folks have with fire works? When my kids were young, there was always THAT kid who loved to light things on fire, and blow things up.

Remember THAT kid?

Yep!

That’s the one.

It was the kid who also liked to take the wings off of flying bugs! Well, that kid and all his little “let’s light stuff on fire and blow things up” friends have moved into our neighborhood.

You see, we live right next to a lake…and on this lake, it is legal to do fireworks…so, every year, the fireworks start going off in June. These folks have to warm up before the big day! It is subtle at first. A “POP” in the distance…one evening. A few nights later, there are a few more…all the way up to the week before the 4th of July, when all hell breaks loose. Firecrackers going off until the wee hours of the morning.

Meanwhile, our dog…who is special needs…goes nuts. Last night we found her curled up in the bathroom…in the dark…looking VERY tense. VERY tense…and VERY growly. We tried to calm her down but, nothin worked. So, we left her in the bathroom and talked to her from the living room to try and soothe her:

ME: “It’s Okay Ellllyyyyyyyy….You are a gooooooddddd girrrrllllll!”

Son One: “It’s okay Ellllyyyyyyy….the fireworks will stop soooooonnnnnn!”

Crazy Dog Elly: (To herself) “I wish everyone would just shut up and leave me ALONE!!!!!”

The amazing part of this whole thing…is that it is 8:00 in the morning…and I just heard another firecracker!

Un-flippin-believable!

Luckily, this day will pass…and in about a week…all of these folks will run out of things to blow up and then peace will return to my little neighborhood.

Until then, I am going to put our little growly girl on some doggie valium and drink margaritas until the whole thing is over.

Anyone wanna come by for a cocktail?

Oh, if you decide to drop by…beware of our dog…she bites when she is afraid…and right now she is verrrryyyy afraid!

Have a safe 4th of July~

  1. In my opinion, one of the best things about having your own blog is getting to rant whenever you feel like it! :)

  2. This is true:) Thanks for the reminder Jenny. Gotta rant more often cuz it’s kinda fun!
    Have a good holiday weekend!

  3. Don’t get me started…I was in Dublin (California!) the other day and saw FIREWORKS STANDS! Omigod. So, we have over 1,000 fires raging in this state, and the city of Dublin thinks it’s okay to allow the sale of fireworks?

    Speechless.

  4. Un-flippin-believable Alix!!!! What the hell are they thinking? Idiots! They are all idiots!!! Just makes me shake my head and wonder at some people.

  5. I’m with Elly! Since having a neurological condition (special needs like Elly)–I hate fireworks. They flare-up my worst symptoms.
This year I made a cozy place on our bathroom floor with a comforter and pillow. (The master bath is the most insulated place from outside noises.) I stayed there until they stopped. Next year you can send Elly over and we’ll hang out together.

  6. Well, I will send Elly to you…while the rest of us will be on our roof watching fireworks:)
Oh wait…you can come here and hang out in the bathroom with Elly! I will even set up blankets and pillows…and I will even clean the toilets.

  7. Wow, I’m honored, you’d even clean the toilets! Could you buy some doggy biscuits for Elly and some snacks for me…and how about a tv/dvd and a good chick flix. Does Elly like chick flix?

  8. I will totally get you and Elly snacks and a chick flick to boot! How about “Sleepless in Seattle”…it’s Elly’s fav!
